Meeting minutes from meeting of 2/28/06

  • Short meeting this month, Business only.
  • Meeting started at 6:00 p.m. this month due to the fact that this month's meeting fell on Fat Tuesday and the Mardi Gras celebration at St. Ann.
  • If you missed the Mardi Gras, make plans to attend next year. Great food!
  • Father Tony opened the meeting with a prayer and attending members recited the Father's Oath.
  • Several special intentions were brought up. Your prayers are asked for:
    • The Vogt family (vehicular fatality)
    • The Roesner family, especially Diane on a tragic anniversary.
    • The Hallmeister family (traffic accident).
    • SAMA Member Scott Kihnke, serving in Iran.
    • The Hardig babies. Greg Senior is happy to report the twins in England seem to be improving.
    • Mike Waldman asked for prayers for his sister and her husband, and asked especially that God's grace finds their foster children.
    • Fr. Tony asked for prayers for all cancer patients and all the Parish ill.
  • Lots of the meeting this month was concerning the just passed (Saturday March 4th) Answer the Call conference that was held at Music Hall.

One of Bob Thinnes' intentions in starting SAMA was to improve St. Ann's attendance at this once yearly event. We are happy to report that we were successful: This year we had 30+ attendees, up from 4-5 last year.
  • Answer the Call was something special. Wonderful speakers including former Moeller and Notre Dame head coach, Jerry Faust. It's really worth your time to spend one day a year thinking about your faith and your personal place in it, and it's moving to see strong men who have made strong and difficult choices.
  • Ray Roesner already sent out a list of talking points from this year's conference. I took extensive notes (about 10 pages), just wanted to offer:

I could probably shorten and transcribe these, but it would still be very lengthy. If anyone is particularly interested, please let me know. (J. Birkenhauer)
  • Reminder that the Day at Sparta Racetrack is Saturday April 8th. We are going to meet at 7:30 for Scripture readings and then Mass, and leave immediately after. Seems like there will be plenty of drivers if you just want to ride along. Remember: The tour is free. If you've already signed up to ride or drive, you're paid for, so, please join us.
  • Greg Hardig Sr. and Ray Roesner reminded everyone that the 2nd and 4th Saturday's of the month are regular scheduled scripture readings/reflections in the school library at 7:30 a.m. This is also a good time to just vent, if you've got something on your mind. This is a designated safe place, and you will meet with and share with people who do care and might be able to help. That's what we are all here for. It is followed by Mass at 8:30.
  • Bob Thinnes has extended an open invitation to anyone interested in attending his annual Golf Trip at Bright Leaf (in Kentucky, I think). The dates this year are June 30, July 1+2. Cost is $191: That covers three days of golf, lodging, and some meals. There is a rumor that a few beers get drunk, as well. Bob needs to know by the end of March (earlier if possible) if you are interested in attending. There is probably a size limit, but he won't know till he says how many people are interested in going.
  • Couple upcoming projects, just for contemplation at this point:

    1) Fr. Tom will be asking for our help with a project in Over the Rhine called Cornerstone.

    2) There is a project coming up through SAFE where we will be painting play designs one weekend in the lower school parking lot. Paint and forms are provided, and this event may be open for family/children.

    3) There is a Lenten soup project at school on March 22nd accepting volunteers.

    4) March 19 is the Indiana chicken dinner (not a SAMA event but I am willing to wager a few of us will be disposing of fowl that evening).

  • SAMA provided $50 to help fund the recent self-defense class, which by general report was very well done. We have $129 plus some miscellaneous gift cards in the Treasury (thanks, Jim O'Shaughnessy).
  • I have the next meeting listed as March 21st at 7:00 p.m. I may have gotten that wrong and will send an update if so, look forward to seeing you all there. Next meeting is February 28th 2006, the last day of the month. Look forward to seeing you all then.
