Meeting minutes from meeting of 9/20/05
- The meeting started with a prayer by Father Tony.
- There was a "round table" held where members present were asked to state what they wanted from the Ministry, and what direction they hoped it would go. Lots of great responses, some of them were:
- There was a strong interest exhibited by many members in reviewing and discussing the readings for the week as provided by the Spiritual coordinators. There was some talk of allowing additional or separate time for this, given the level of interest.
- Many commented that they wanted a focus to be general social interaction and networking among the men of the parish.
- Many long-term members of the Parish expressed a desire to increase the sense of fellowship of the parish and to extend it into a growing circle of acquaintances.
- There were several positive comments on the sense that this is a self-created organization, that is, that we are acting to define ourselves and our goals through our actions.
- Several members brought up the fact that the spiritual Ministries in the parish are currently dominated by women, and were pleased that this group offers an opportunity to the men of St. Ann's to help balance this out.
- It was pointed out that this type of organization is an excellent way to maintain adult friendships with people you grew up with. On a related note: Several members pointed out that one goal of Catholic men should be to set an example for our children, and this ministry offers us a concrete way to do so.
- There were several other ideas brought up: Many mentioned having service to the Parish as a primary goal (and Bob has us well started on some of these). Growth as a Catholic and help with the struggles of being a Catholic male were voiced by several. There was a member interested in forming a 35 and over softball team. Lots of folks with positive ideas!
- Bob reminded us of the trip to St. Joe's, which was Saturday (9/25/05). Everyone who attended had fun, great way to start a new Ministry.
- Next up is the trip to Tender Mercies. Bob asked for volunteers and reminded everyone to bring a few spare dollars. Also: Bob reminded everyone that this trip is probably not appropriate for children.
- The officers were sworn in and blest by Father Tony. Pictures of this fine looking group of stout fellows were promptly posted on the web by Brian Ante, who has done excellent work to date as we try to figure out our website.
- An appeal was made to the Men's group on behalf of a family in the parish facing an unexpected medical/financial burden. Several persons at the meeting said would volunteer as individuals giving time and energy to this cause as a way to give back to a family that has given to the parish. Keep them in your prayers.
- The meeting ended with a closing prayer by Father Tony.
- Jim O'Shaughnessy brought up an upcoming motivational seminar that will be September 7th at U.S. Bank Arena. There is a group rate apparently. We'll send out more info if we get it!
- NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY OCTOBER 18TH AT 7PM ROOM C.
