Meeting minutes from meeting of 10/18/05

  • Attendance was down at the third SAMA meeting. We hope everyone remains interested and can attend next month's meetings. Sponsored events have gone very well to date; we need everyone's help!
  • The meeting started with a prayer by Father Tony.
  • There was a financial report by treasurer Jim O'Shaughnessy. The three club outing did great (over $300 profit). We had a split the pot in September, won by Father Tony, who donated the winnings back (approx $24.00). We have a positive balance to continue doing good works.
  • There was an immediate motion by President Bob Thinnes to donate $100 to the St. Ann Hardship fund for Parish families in sudden need. This was seconded and resolved unanimously by all present.
  • The weekly readings were read aloud by Vice President Brian Ante, pastoral director Ray Roesner, and pastoral director Rick Merk.
  • There was a localized discussion about a request for help from members with computer skills to the family of Bill Holgreef. Brian Ante volunteered to head up this effort.
  • There was a fast moving and effectively resolved request to aid the Brandy Hearst (?) family that has relocated to the Cincinnati area after Hurricane Katrina. Catholic Social Services of Cincinnati had been contacted prior to this meeting and agreed to donate three beds and two dressers to this family, members present resolved to get together and transport and aid this family on Saturday November 22nd. Bob Thinnes, Brian Ante, Jim O'Shaughnessy, John Birkenhauer and son Andy transported this material on the Saturday following this meeting. It's great to be part of a local organization making a local difference, we'd like to encourage everyone to act or bring ideas to every meeting. Seems to date to be energy to spare!
  • Brian Ante covered developments on the web site. This has gone well and Brian has done a great job, but there have been a couple of wrinkles. The committee voted funds to pay the web services to remove all banner adds on our main page (and this motion was passed unanimously at the relevant meeting), however, this also deleted our page and Brian had to redo it. He is working out other details and continues to make progress.
  • Our web page has a "Forum" section where SAMA members can post thoughts, opinions, etc. This Forum requires a password, which is: [please email me for the password webmaster@sama-online.org]. There is also an up to date calendar.
  • There was a discussion and formalized order for T-Shirts. This concept was again handled by Brian Ante, and has gone great. Please show up at the next SAMA meeting and order yours! These will be $12.00, will raise funds for SAMA, look great, and will be relatively limited. Be one of the guys!
  • Brian Ante as Vice President has worked on a Constitution for SAMA. He went over his progress to date and asked for help and input in a couple of areas.
  • Bob Thinnes went over the results of the Men's Association annual trip this year to Tender Mercies in Over the Rhine to provide a meal to the homeless and mentally handicapped. Parish member Joy Riley was elected the first "Honorary SAMA member" as she donated 200 White Castles to the project. As in all the "works" projects to date, this was: A) A great success B) A lot of fun and C) Decently attended. We would love to have some more volunteers for some of the events as we are getting a repetitive crowd. Those attending aren't complaining (we've had a blast), we just want everyone to participate and enjoy positive results with us!
  • December 20th was put forth as the tentative date for the December meeting and as a Christmas party. Please attend, we will try to make this a social event and are looking into refreshments. It would be great to have more attendees at November's meeting to help coordinate some of this and to offer your opinions and help!
  • SAMA has been asked to provide volunteers to work shifts at the $25 for .25 booth at the parish Octoberfest. If you can help work a shift, follow up at the number listed in the Parish bulletin
  • Important Meeting Changes! In November, to avoid the Thanksgiving Holiday and to accommodate schedules of regular attendees the SAMA Meeting has been changed to the Fifth Tuesday of the month, November 29th!! Please make a note of this! Also, there was a motion made to change the date of the regular monthly meeting to the 4th Tuesday of every month instead of the third. There were no serious objections to this.
  • All right, that last seems confusing and we want people to attend, let me summarize: November, meeting is at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th (fifth Tuesday). December, meeting is on the 20th (third Tuesday, also to avoid the holidays) and this meeting is the 1st Annual SAMA Christmas Party. Starting in January, meetings will be the fourth Tuesday of every month. (And yes I checked and am relieved to report that February of next year has four Tuesdays!). Bear with us, we aren't perfect but we are trying hard to do OK!
  • Bob Thinnes needs lots of volunteers for the Run Like Hell event Friday October 28th at Walnut Hills Cemetery at Victory and Gilbert. We need Volunteers, and volunteers need a warm coat, a flashlight, and a smile. Event runs from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. and is appropriate for older children. Contact bob if you can help of have questions.
  • There was discussion about a previous issue that was brought up: Men as Communion Distributors. This discussion was tabled on data brought up at the meeting (no action anticipated at this time).
  • There was a closing prayer by Ray Roesner as Father Tony had to leave early.
  • Plan on coming to Novembers Meeting! This organization needs you!
  • NEXT MEETING IS TUESDAY NOVEMBER 29TH AT 7PM ROOM C.
